On the last day of filing, Paul Burch learned his name will not be on the ballot for the single-member District 3 seat on the Orange City Council. Burch said on his Facebook page ago that he failed to change his address on his voter registration card when he moved into District 3 a few months ago.
Businessman Michael Smith filed Friday; so the District 3 race still has three candidates. The other two are incumbent Essie Bellfield and Terrie T. Salter.
No one new filed for the At-Large Position 6 on the council. Incumbent Larry Spears Jr. is facing challengers Veronica Woodle and Mary Ikene.
The cities of West Orange and Pinehurst will be able to cancel elections because of no contested races. Only incumbents are running. In Pinehurst, the incumbents are Dan Mohon, T.W. Permenter and Sarah McClendon. For West Orange, Mayor Roy McDonald and council members Carl Thibodeaux and Dr. Frances Droddy-Lopez are running again.
The Bridge City City Council has two candidates running for the Place 1 seat. Carl Herbert and Phillip Todaro will face each other for the seat being vacated by Kevin Mott. Incumbents Tammi Fisette, Place 3, and Terri Gauthier, Place 5, are unopposed.
In the West Orange-Cove school board race, Kianna Edwards-Brooks and Tommy Wilson Sr. filed Friday for the two at-large positions open. Also running are incumbent Ruth Hancock and Tricia Stroud. The other incumbent, Sarah Jefferson-Simon, died in January.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville district has one contested race. Barry Bates and Kevin Abernathy are running for Place 2, previously held by David Jones. Place 1 incumbent Randy McIlwain and Place 3 incumbent Marlene Courmier drew no opposition.
Bridge City ISD incumbent board member Michael C. Johnson is being challenged by Michael David McGee for Place 6. Incumbent Mark Anderson is unopposed for Place 7.
Elections will be May 6 and early voting starts April 24.
