The Planning and Zoning Commission approved two requests for changes in the zoning on different sections of Ferry Drive in Bridge City on Monday. One request is to allow for the construction of duplexes and the other is to give a piece of property a unified zoning.
The first request was made by Larry Nguyen for seven pieces of property to be changed from single family residential to low density residential. A couple of neighbors to those properties expressed concern about the drainage problem that might be created by the construction of seven duplexes there which Nguyen plans for the properties.
Nguyen insisted he wants to improve the look of the properties and the drainage. “There will be seven built, but they’ll all look different, different elevation so when you’re driving down Ferry they won’t be cookie-cutter looking they’ll be something nice,” Nguyen stated.
Concerns about the parking of vehicles on the properties will be addressed later when the plans are presented to Bridge City. City Manager Jerry Jones indicated he will review the plans for parking considering the setback of the duplexes on the property.
The second request was for property near the Wal-Mart Store. The request by Warren Landry is to rezone the entire property third commercial since part of it is zoned residential. Jones asked the Planning and Zoning Commission to include another piece of property behind the Wal-Mart in the request.
Both items were unanimously approved by the commission. The zoning changes will go to the City Council of Bridge City for final approval. The next meeting of the council will be Tuesday, March 5.
