
Orange County citizens repairing or rebuilding their homes damaged by Tropical Storm Harvey can receive free information and tips in Orange this week. Mitigation specialists with FEMA will be at the McCoy’s Building Supply located on Interstate 10 through February 3.
FEMA advisors will be at McCoy’s in Orange to answer questions and offer tips on techniques to use to build hazard resistant homes. The information and the free publications provided are geared for do-it-yourself type work and general contractors.
Edward Trimble, a mitigation specialist with FEMA, is helping local residents learn how to build smartly. He encouraged residents to use flood damage resistant materials or even bringing their slabs down to the concrete and finish it which saves having to replace the floor after the next flood.
If necessary, Trimble recommends citizens elevating their homes or at least their electrical appliances. “The main thing is get flood insurance especially in this area on the Gulf of Mexico, and preparation be prepared,” Trimble concluded.
The FEMA mitigation specialists will be at the McCoy’s located at 4514 West Lutcher Drive, which is the service road of Interstate 10. Tuesday through Friday they will be there from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Saturday, February 3, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
