Homeowners with damage from Tropical Storm Harvey will be able to pay their local property taxes, due on January 31, in four payments this year.
The Orange County Tax Assessor-Collectors office said the taxpayer must sign an affidavit they had damage on their homestead property. The payment system will not be used for other types of properties without registered homestead exemption.
Governor Greg Abbott signed the order allowing the one-time offer for the extended payments. If a homeowner opts for the payments, the first must be paid by February 1, the second by April 1, the third on June 1, and the fourth by August 1.
Orange County offers all homeowners age 65 and older with a homestead exemption to pay taxes in four payments.
