
Monday morning Pinehurst and West Orange joined Orange and have called voluntary evacuations for people living near Adams Bayou. West Orange Mayor Roy McDonald said the lowest areas include Dayton Street and anything east of Dayton. Sandbag supplies are available at the West Orange Police Department, 2700 Austin Street behind city hall.
The sand has run out at the Orange Boat Ramp off Simmons Drive and will not be replaced. The sand bag supplies at the old armory on Meeks Drive are being moved to Memorial Field.
The Orange County Drainage District on Old Highway 90 in McLewis also has sandbags available for any county residents.
Pinehurst has canceled Tuesday’s Coffee with the Mayor.
Schools in Orange County are on spring break this week; so no class cancellations have been called. Lamar State College-Orange has spring break for students but staff is set to go to work Monday.
Employees at the Orange County Courthouse and city of Orange offices are also set to work on Monday til noon. Courthouse employees will work a half day Monday.
Sheriff Keith Merritt said he has called in extra deputies to patrol the areas that are being evacuated. The sheriff’s office has several boats and an airboat. He said he has been on the Sabine River and advises people not to go on the river in boats because of large trees that have fallen and floated down, along with other debris.
The Texas Tourist Bureau is closed til further notice.
