Eugene Nicholas DuCharme, 87, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away at home on October 22, 2024.
Born in Jennings, Louisiana, on May 1, 1937, he was the son of Theodore A. DuCharme and Anna (Benard) DuCharme. Eugene honorably served in the United States Air Force. His career as a welder, particularly as a member of the Boilermaker Union, showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft. He was also a founding member of Life Church Orange, contributing to his community in meaningful ways. Outside of his professional life, Eugene found joy in a variety of hobbies. He had a special passion for model airplanes and spent countless hours perfecting his creations. Fishing provided him with relaxation and happiness, and he loved to work in his yard, nurturing the natural beauty around him. As a beekeeper and rabbit farmer, he embraced his love for nature and shared his harvest by selling fresh vegetables on the roadside. Eugene will be remembered for his strong character, his loving spirit, and the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts of those he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Anna DuCharme; sisters, Erma Gary and Mildred LeJuene.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn DuCharme; daughters, Sheri DuCharme Hoffpauir and husband Michael, and Katy DuCharme Ellzey and husband Travis; son, Tony E. DuCharme and wife Sherry; grandchildren, Christopher Hoffpauir and wife Stayci, Brittney Chandler and husband Matthew, Ashley Thomas, Kevin DuCharme and wife Kathryn, Dustin DuCharme, and T.J. Ellzey and wife Ellen; great-grandchildren, Aiden Ellzey, Casey Ellzey, Elizabeth Thomas, Annabelle Thomas, Micah Thomas, Samuel Thomas, Josiah DuCharme, Elijah DuCharme, Grayson Hoffpauir, Parker Hoffpauir, Blakely Chandler, Everly Chandler, and Shepard Chandler; sister, Elaine Picard and husband Roy Lee; brother, Richard DuCharme and wife Peggy; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
The family would like to thank Prescribed Home Health, and Concho Hearts Hospice for the outstanding care and love they showed us during his time with them. The family requests in lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Life Church Orange Building fund or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
There will be a celebration of Eugene’s life on November 2nd at 2:00 PM at Life Church Orange, 18389 TX-62, Orange Texas, 77630.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
