The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Emily Wells will be held during Rites of Committal at Houston National Cemetery, Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 1pm. Services are under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
On Saturday morning, May 6, 2023 @ 5:39 a.m. the Lord sent His Angel to claim the soul of his beloved child, Emily Louise Stanberry Wells. Known to many as Momma, Nana, or Aunt Baby Sister.
She was born on January 20, 1930, at 6:30 a.m. in Orange, Texas to the lovely parent, Leona Berry and C.B. Stansbury, whom both has proceeded her in death.
Emily was a force to be reckoned with at an early age. A joy to her loved ones and an anchor of strength to her family and friends. Emily’s life was centered around good people, family, God, traveling, shopping, cooking, and baking. Let us not forget, Baby Sister loved to dress from head to toe. She was a very sharp dresser.
She married at an early age her first husband, Mr. Vorris E. Locks, Sr. (Deceased) and to this union she gave birth to two healthy sons, Vorris E. Locks, Jr., and Horris C. Locks (deceased). Later in life, in 1955 she met and married the man of her dreams, Mr. James Wells. They lived in Virginia for awhile and later moved to Houston, Texas where she resided until the Lord called her to her heavenly home to rest beside her husband after 43 years.
Emily was a member of East Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ronald Mouton. Throughout her lifetime she participated in many social clubs and organizations. She was a member of the usher board and kitchen ministries at various churches she attended. She belonged to Whist Clubs, Order of Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, Daughters of the Sphinx, Royal House, and Grand Court of Calanthe, etc.
Emily Wells leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Vorris E. Locks, Jr. /Poochie, grandchildren, Tanya Locks Crossley (Darick), Horris C. Locks, Jr./Tig (deceased) (Ana), Fredricka Savoy; great grandchildren, Miguel Bledsoe, De’Shi’Omonique Swain (Leon), Kristen Savoy, Brandon Locks and Te’Zauria Locks Williams. Great-great grandchildren, Kreon Bledsoe, Zaden Bledsoe, and Legend Locks. Cousin, Mariena Thorton. Also, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends are left to mourn her passing.
