On Tuesday Ben Elliot was the leading scorer for LCM. The Bears needed all 23 of his points to hold off Vidor in a big district win.
In the process Elliott went over the 2000 point mark for his career and became the all-time leading scorer for the Bears with four games left (and the playoffs) still on the schedule.
For his play, and his career, Elliott has been named the KOGT Athlete of the Week sponsored by First Financial Bank.
“I knew at the beginning of the season I had a shot (at 2000) if I stayed healthy, so it was definitely a goal,” Elliott said.
Coach Brad Jeffcoat said, “Ben has been a scorer for as long as I’ve known him. He was moved up to varsity about halfway through his freshman year and he sometimes agitated some of the older guys because he would pretty much shoot it any time he touched it. Since then he’s really matured and grown as an all around basketball player. He’s currently averaging 19.6 pts, 10.2 rebounds a game. He had 5 assists Tuesday so his imprint on the game has really grown in his four years with us. Some college is going to pick up a really nice player.”
