Tuesday is Election Day with Ten Propositions on the ballot. If you did not early vote you will need to go to your precinct box. The hours are 7am-7pm and your precinct box is listed on your voters registration card. Locations are below.
Voters will choose “yes” or “no” on each proposition.
Proposition 1: The amendment will allow a person to hold more than one position as a municipal judge at the same time. Currently, most of the city judges in the state are appointed and may serve multiple cities. However, an elected municipal judge has not been able to work in the position in another city.
Proposition 2: The Texas Water Development Board will be able to issue up to $200 million in bonds to help “economically distressed” areas with water and wastewater projects.
Proposition 3: The amendment will allow the state legislature to give property tax appraisal relief for properties with damages after a disaster.
Proposition 4: The amendment will prohibit implementing a state income tax on “an individual’s share of partnership and unincorporated association income.” The state constitution has long banned a state income tax, but the proposition will make it harder for a legislature to start an income tax.
Proposition 5: Will require a current state sales tax on sporting goods go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and the Texas Historical Commission for managing, preserving, and acquiring parks and historic sites. The tax on sporting goods was created in 1993, however, the state legislature has used the tax income for other purposes.
Proposition 6: The amendment will authorized the legislature to increase by $3 billion the maximum bond amount authorized for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. The proposition will double the amount for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Proposition 7: The amendment will allow increased monies distributed to “the available school fund,” which is for classroom materials and funding of state schools.
Proposition 8: The amendment sets up a permanent flood control state fund.
Proposition 9: The proposition will let the legislature make precious metals held in a precious metal depository in the state exempt from property taxes. The state is set to open the Texas Boullion Depository next year.
Proposition 10: The amendment will allow retired law enforcement animals to be adopted by former handlers or qualified caretakers without a fee.
