Edward Glenn Durham was born in Port Arthur, Texas, and his Texas roots ran deep. He
graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1965. He was enlisted in the Marine Corps
Reserves from 1965-1971. He was always a very industrious man, with jobs in high school, as
a pipe fitter at Texaco, and then as an industrial firefighter with Boots and Coots. He later was
the first man hired to work at Williams Fire and Hazard Control. He worked to assist
extinguishing the two largest tank fires ever extinguished to date anywhere in the world. He
was also well liked and regarded in his capacity as an Extreme Advanced Hazardous
Firefighting Instructor, passing along all the knowledge he had to help the next generation of
brave men to battle in the extinguishment of industrial fires.
A lifelong Southeast Texas native, he moved to Mauriceville in 1979. He was most content
there, sitting on his porch with his dog, looking out on his property and the lake christened
Lake Durham in his honor. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved hunting, fishing, and
being in nature.
In his later years, he rejoined the Primitive Baptist Church of his youth. This brought him much
peace and solace, and he treasured the sense of community and fellowship he found there.
Above all, he loved his family. He was proud and protective of them, and always spoke of the
importance of family. One of his great joys was to see and spend time with his wife, kids,
grandkids, and great granddaughter.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, JC and Pauline Durham, his sister Deborah Kelley,
and his brother-in-law Charles Kelley.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wendy Falgout Durham; his daughters Kim Durham and
Shelley Forsyth; son-in-law Brett Forsyth; his niece Kristie Young; her husband Will Young; his
grandchildren Caitlin, her fiancée Zac Payne, Evie, and Ryder Parsons; his grandniece and
grandnephew, Kiley and Cole Young; and a great granddaughter, Marceline Parsons.
