Once again, the Orange Economic Development Corporation and City Council are ready to give up to $650,000 in economic development money for Eagle Point acreage off Interstate 10 at Highway 62.
The two groups in July 2016 approved the expenditure and gave a six-month extension in 2017 when the site did not develop. The money was never awarded and no construction has been made.
The 250-acres on the south side of the interstate and east of Highway 62 is owned by the Houseman Companies. The previous agreement has been for the city to spend up to $650,000 to build an entrance boulevard to the site. The project was contingent on getting a “big box store” to anchor the site to attract more businesses. The agreement included the Houseman Companies giving the city right-of-way property for installation of utilities.
The city Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday and then the council will meet at 5:30 p.m. The Houseman Companies proposal is on the agendas for the two groups. They meet in the council chamber next to the Orange Public Library.
