The Board of Directors for the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) approved Friday hiring Jessica Hill as the new executive director for the EDC. Three applications were received for the position of executive director before the deadline. Hill was the only candidate interviewed by the Board of Directors.
Keith Wallace chaired the meeting and stated Hill was clearly the best choice for the position of executive director. Wallace said that Hill has the most experience of all the applicants, is state certified in economic development, and is the only one from this area which gave her extensive knowledge of the petro-chemical and chemical industries in Southeast Texas.
Hill has been working with the Regional Economic Development Initiative, known as REDI, which has handled the county’s economic development projects since January. Wallace emphasized that Hill passed all three phases of her state economic certification test on her first attempt which only about three percent of people do successfully. Hill is expected to assume her duties as executive director of the Economic Development Corporation at the end of March.
