
The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a fatal crash on state Highway 87, near Cajun Acres Lane, that occurred, February 14, 2023. The driver of the vehicle has been identified a 62-year old Hardy Dyson of Orange.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1:58 a.m., a 2020 Toyota pickup was traveling south. It is reported that for an unknown reason at this time, the pickup left the roadway and traveled into the west ditch where it struck a tree and caught fire.
The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by a Justice of the Peace. Dyson’s obituary is posted below.
Hardy Dewayne Dyson was born September 15, 1960, and passed away February 14, 2023, at the age of 62. He enjoyed fishing, mud riding, karaoke, and country music. He worked for Union Pacific for 15+ years. Hardy was a loving, caring, and generous man. He loved his family and friends more than anything. He wanted what was best for his loved ones and he found joy in their happiness.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Bertrand Dyson; children, Brandi Courville and husband, Justin, Brittney Deal and husband, Cody, Bryan Dyson and wife, Courtney, Katy Edgerton, Tyler Burleson, and Hunter Burleson and wife, Lauren; grandchildren, Maci, Kaitlyn, Avery, Kale, Kanin, Kenner, Kam, Layla, Skyla, and Hallie; sisters, Linda Dyson Cooper and Dorothy Vercher; and brothers, Cecil Dyson and Rafil Burgess, Jr. and wife, Jerrie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Dyson, and Rafil and Letha Burgess, brother, Jim Burgess; and sister, Lucy Scott.
Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 1810 W. 4th Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana. Rev. Jimmy Clark will be officiating.
