Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center invites the public to their annual event, Dreaming of a Green Christmas, on Saturday, December 13. This day of festive fun marks an opportunity for visitors to enjoy hands-on activities amongst the festive landscape. The day begins at 10:30 a.m. with hands-on activities available until 3:00 p.m. Admission to Dreaming of a Green Christmas is free of charge.
During this family friendly celebration, visitors of all ages can expect to enjoy hands-on, creative activities. This day also presents the perfect opportunity to experience the beautifully decorated botanical gardens and create family memories. The gardens also feature dozens of community-decorated Christmas trees generously gifted by Chevron Phillips Chemical – Orange Plant. Chevron Phillips Chemical’s sponsorship of the 2025 Community Decorate-a-Tree Event provides live trees to be decorated with recycled and repurposed materials by community organizations, school groups and businesses.
“We’re thrilled to welcome families to celebrate the spirit of the season with us during this fun-filled day. We look forward to spreading holiday cheer with environmentally friendly activities. Families will have an opportunity to create ornaments using natural materials that they can take home to enjoy all season long,” said Katie Krantz, associate director at Shangri La Gardens.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities for families to capture their holiday memories at themed photo spots, including the Children’s Garden space that will be transformed into a whimsical Candyland bursting with color and cheer. Dreaming of a Green Christmas activities will end at 3 p.m., but visitors may enjoy the gardens until 5 p.m. The last entry into the garden during regular garden hours is at 4:30 p.m.
“This holiday season, we’re encouraging everyone to ‘Be Kind to Your World’ by celebrating with us at Dreaming of a Green Christmas – a celebration rooted in caring for our environment and the people who share it. Help us extend that kindness to our community by bringing non-perishable food items for our Community Food Drive benefiting Orange Christian Services. All food and monetary donations collected during the month of December will support those in greatest need throughout our community,” said Krantz.
