Dorothy Jean Brandon was born August 15, 1940, in Lake Creek, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Hane David.
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.
After graduating from Lufkin’s Dunbar High School in 1958, she went on to study at Texas Southern University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
Upon graduation she was employed by E.I. DuPont’s Sabine River Works Plant in Orange, retiring after 28 years of service.
In 1963, she united with the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She became the Church Secretary. The responsibilities that she faithfully carried out included preparing church bulletins, filing church letters and contracts, collecting church history and many other tasks.
Dorothy also handled the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She made sure Sunday School students were prepared for Easter speeches, helped with church decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Black History program. She also prepared the students for Sunday school conventions, traveling to Arizona, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida.
She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was also a member of The Top Ladies of Distinction and The Debonair Art and Civic Club.
She was a longtime member of the Orange County Zoning Board and was the Administration Vice Chair of the Lutcher Theater Service Committee. She also served on the Heritage House Committee and had been a member of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.
An entrepreneur in her own right, she opened and operated Fashions by Dorothy in the MacArthur Shopping Center for 21 years, and later, Pretty Feet on 16th Street, a women’s shoe boutique.
She and her future husband met in the fall of 1959. Three years later she and Charles E. Brandon were married.
Her summons from life-to-life eternal came May 8, 2023, in the peaceful quiet of her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Davy, Claud, and John.
She is survived by her husband Charles, daughter Alicia Thomas of Houston, TX, her youngest sister, Josie Nell Jackson of Lufkin, TX, three grandchildren, Ian of Dallas, TX and Ikiera and Damion of Houston, TX, and great grandchild, Khailin of Houston, and a host of other family and friends.
