
Dorothy Dutschmann, 90, of Nederland, died peacefully Tuesday, July 13, 2021. She was born September 22, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to Minnie and Walter Schroeder. Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Dorothy received her bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Chicago; her master’s degree from Northern Arizona University; and her diagnostician certification from McNeese State University, Louisiana. Her dedication to education, as a teacher and diagnostician, was steadfast throughout her life. She retired from Little-Cypress Mauriceville ISD but continued working in Nederland ISD as a diagnostician.
Dorothy was a strong and wonderful woman who loved her family deeply. She was an incredible writer who shared her gift with family and friends during memorable moments in their lives through her poetry. We always looked forward to her yearly Christmas poem, which was a delight and inspiration.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Nederland. She touched the lives of many people in her ninety years, and she will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Charles Blohm and wife, Brenda; Carla Denney and husband, Bill; and Fred Blohm and wife, Sarah; adopted son, Bryan Wiley; stepchildren, Eric Dutschmann; Craig Dutschmann and wife, Joelle; and Dana Dutschmann; sister, Arlene Jank and husband, Orville; sister-in-law, Juanita Metzler; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As many others have experienced, Dorothy dealt with her share of challenges in life having had three husbands precede her in death: Wilbert “Dutch” Dutschmann, husband of thirty-three years; Ken Wiley; and Charles Blohm, Sr. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Art Schroeder; and stepson, Greg Dutschmann.
A memorial service for Mrs. Dutschmann will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
