Game One of the Regional Quarterfinal between Bridge City and Jasper lived up to its billing of two good teams going at each other with the Bulldogs winning 4-1.
Both designated hitters got the job done in the fourth. BC scored first when Cace Skinner drove in Jackson Tims. The Dogs responded in the bottom of the inning on a towering homerun by Leo Escalante to make it 1-1.
In the fifth after intentionally walking lead off batter Reese Durand to put two on, shortstop Michael Soisson hit a run scoring single to plate Victor Williams.
Jasper would score two in the sixth. After being walked by starter Peyton Havard, Escalante scored on a single by Colton Womack. Henry McMillon who singled and reached third on Womack’s hit, would score on a pass ball.
Womack (11-1), the starter for Jasper (29-5) would get the complete game win, giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Havard took the loss giving up four runs on six hits with six K’s and four walks in six innings.
Both teams shined defensively, including Tims throwing out a runner at the plate in the third. Game Two of this series will be Friday in Nederland at 7:30. Game Three is Saturday at Lamar at 7:30.
