Grocery stores and Dollar stores have been packed for the past few days as people stock up on supplies for the novel coronavirus outbreak. Shelves are bare of toilet paper, paper towels, and sanitizers.
Stores are limiting purchases on some items, especially toilet paper. For instance, Kroger is limiting customers to buy three of sanitizers, cold and flu medicines, and household essentials. This morning, the local store had toilet paper, but limited it to one per customer.
One checker at a Dollar store told KOGT that they won’t announce when trucks come in because they don’t want people waiting in lines outside the store. She said people will have to continue to come by and occasionally check. She added that even when they’re told a truck is coming, it doesn’t always come or come on time.
HEB and Walmart chains have changed operating hours because of the demand.
HEB is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The store on its corporate website said the reduced hours are to give employees extra time to stock. The stores are limiting purchases on some items.
Walmart said the cut in hours is to allow employees time to stock and sanitize. The stores are sanitizing high-touch and high traffic areas. Stores are also limiting paper products and cleaning supplies.
Overall the good news is that more of those products in demand at this time should be on the shelves soon.
