
The city of Orange in November issued eight building permits for demolitions with seven of the dilapidated houses torn down by the city with federal grant money.
Also, a 16th Street business, Dawn Jones Realty, is being remodeled and St. James Missionary Baptist Church tore down one building to fix a new one.
Dawn Jones Realty, 2204 16th Street, received a permit for $30,000 worth of remodeling under the commercial listings. The Waffle House at 2310 Highway 62 South filed to get a permit for $20,000 worth of concrete work on the parking lot.
In the residential remodeling listing, a house on Rosewood Drive has a permit for $50,000 worth of remodeling to repair flood damage. A house on Oak Forest Drive has a $120,000 permit for rebuilding after a fire.
The houses demolished with the grant money are at 308 Moreell Boulevard, 2313 Third Street, 2305 Sixth Street, 112 Tennessee Street, 2308 Sixth Street, 1009 Texas Street, 1108 10th Street and 413 Decatur. The property owner of 433 Lutcher Drive had a permit to demolish a house there.
St. James Missionary Baptist Church got a permit to tear down its building at 801 Border Street. The church also took out a permit for $19,210 worth of commercial mechanical work for heating and air conditioning. The church’s new building is 505 15th Street, the former West Orange-Cove school district administration building.
Four permits for residential storage were issued for a total of $24,687. Also, four permits for residential mechanical work were worth $11,750. Four houses received permits for residential storage buildings worth a total of $24,687, and one house got $2,000 worth of driveway improvements.
First Presbyterian Church received a permit for $24,403 worth of mechanical work for the day school building.
