A man crashed his car into a tree Thursday night trying to avoid a deer that ran across Allie Payne Road. Orange police report that 37-year-old Grady James Briggs Jr. of Orange was taken by Acadian Ambulance Service to Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room. The accident happened about 11 p.m. near the intersection of Allie Payne with White Oak Road.
Officer Tim Pruitt said Briggs was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on the road. Briggs told Pruitt the deer came from his left, on the south side of the road, and crossed to the north side. Briggs steered his car over into the grass and then lost control. The car traveled about 150 feet and hit the tree.
