David Alton Lewis, age 74, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. David was born on May 12, 1947, in Port Arthur, TX, to Lamar Alton Lewis and Letha Lavergne Lewis of Bridge City, Texas. He grew up in Bridge City, Texas, Graduated from Bridge City High School, class of ‘ 64 but lived all around the U.S. while serving in the United States Navy.
David is preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his only son, Rodney Alton Lewis, and wife, Angela Lewis of Groves, TX. His three grandchildren, Hunter Knox, Baylee Lewis, and Carson Lewis. His great-grandchildren, Kambry Knox and Kaesen Knox.
David is also survived by his wife of 25 years, Glenda Lewis. Together they adopted Starr Lewis and shared a life with Glenda’s extended family which included children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in-laws.
David is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the USS SARATOGA, and the USS LOFBERG as an NTDS Air Intercept Controller and Naval Warfare Operations Specialist and for his service, he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Sea Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Award (5th Award), Navy Recruiting Gold Wreath (w/ Silver Star). He served honorably in the Navy, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer E-7. David’s experience in the Navy played a very important role in his life. He made a career out of service to the Navy where he was stationed at many cities in the U.S. Mr. Lewis retired honorably from the U.S. Navy then returned to Bridge City.
A graveside service will be held at 1:45 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX. Members of the United States Navy will honor David’s service to his country with full honors. Dorman Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
