The Celebration of Life for Mr. Daniel Champine will be Friday, October 22, 2021, at 11am at the North Orange Baptist Church.
Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11am.
Daniel was a kind and caring man, who freely gave you the best smile and hugs. His smile was simply infectious.
Daniel passed away on October 12, 2021, at the age of eighty-eight. He was born on March 20th, 1933, to Ola Peacock Champine & Eddie Champine.
Preceding him in death are his parents, six brothers, John, Eddie, Clarence, Freddie, James Lutcher, and Willie Burns; two sisters, Avis Marie Bland, and Maude Esther Jack; son Charles Champine, and grandson Christian Champine.
Daniel grew up in Orange and was a graduate of Emma H. Wallace High School. Daniel was blessed with many talents and was a tremendous athlete. He loved the game of football and went on to play at Tennessee State. He was scouted by many professional football teams but chose to enlist in the US Army.
Daniel married the love of his life, Shirley McGlothin on November 22, 1963, and they were blessed with four (4) beautiful children, Charles Champine, Willie B. Champine, Daniel (Corky) Champine, Jr. and Traci Champine. Daniel took pride in his family and was family oriented, always making time for his wife and children.
Daniel was a Christian and was a lifelong member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church where he sang in the Senior Choir. Daniel would light up the church with his fervent voice when he sang, “I Want to Know If You Love My Jesus,” “Peace Be Still,” “I’m So Grateful,” and “He’s Sweet I Know.”
Daniel retired from the B. F Goodrich Plant. He has been recognized as the first African American to ever service as a Foreman at any plant in the Golden Triangle.
Daniel loved watching football. He supported the West Orange-Stark Mustangs and loved the infamous “Dallas Cowboys.”
Daniel is survived by his sons, Willie B. Champine (Sherry), Daniel Champine, Jr; daughter Traci Champine; special friend, Osha F. Papillion; seven great grandchildren, and eight great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
