
A generator and compressor that were stolen in Deweyville was recovered at a pawn shop in Orange. The theft was reported to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office on June 18. According to The Newton County News, Deputy Chris Kite found the items in the pawn shop and was able to identify them by “significant markings,” the newspaper said. The deputy got a search warrant for the pawn ticket and then was able to make an arrest. Mitchell Crooks, Jr., of Deweyville was arrested for Class A misdemeanor theft. He faces a punishment of up to a year in county jail and a maximum $4,000.
