A 30-year-old Vidor man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Taylor Graham Cozart made the plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith F. Giblin in Beaumont. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date will be set later.
The charge came after Cozart was in a motorcycle accident on July 30, 2019, on Interstate 10 in Orange County.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Englade presented evidence that after the accident, Cozart was taken to a hospital. Officers at the crash found a backpack on the motorcycle. Inside the backpack were a pistol, ammunition, $3,000 cash, methamphetamine, Xanax, and Hydrocodone pills.
Cozart had three previous felony drug convictions. He is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition because of being a convicted felon.
The case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI.
