Two businesses on Highway 62 near Interstate 10 on Thursday found counterfeit bills had been passed.
Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon advised everyone, especially businesses, to be careful about bills. “We’re seeing an influx of (fake) $20 bills,” he said.
The McDonald’s at 2311 Highway 62 called police about 6 Thursday morning after an employee found three $20 counterfeit bills that had been collected during the previous hours.
Then late Thursday night, a superviser at Pilot Truck Stop, 2205 Highway 62, reported finding two counterfeit $100 bills in the safe where money had been placed from registers.
Enmon said counterfeit bills appear in cycles and detectives are trying to track down where the current batch is coming from.
