Being blessed with ninety-five years of life, Cora Morrow transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born in Basile, Louisiana, as Cora Pierre-Auguste to Etel and Denezia Cessaire Pierre-Auguste on May 24, 1930.
Cora was the youngest girl of ten children. She has survived all her siblings and in-laws, giving her the well respected and loved title of Matriarch of both the August and Morrow families.
She married Alexis Morrow, and they made Vinton, Louisiana their home. To this union, six children were born, Ella, Etel, Alexis Jr., Lawrence, Clifton, and David. She worked and retired from Griffin’s Men’s Wear and later worked at Luby’s Cafeteria. She was proud to work until she was 85 years of age. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She raised her children in the Catholic faith and was active in her local church parish until her health prevented her from attending regularly.
Cora loved to dance, play bingo, visit the local casinos, and play scratch-off Lotto cards. She especially loved to have family and friends visit her at home where she hosted many gatherings around her table. She always had a pot of gumbo on the stove, cake on the table, ice cream in the freezer, and sodas in the cabinet. She also would never let you leave empty-handed. To keep up with family and friends, she became very proficient using her I-Pad to log into Facebook, and also to facetime her grandchildren and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents Etel Pierre Auguste and Denezia Cessaire Pierre-Auguste Morrow; her husband Alexis Morrow, Sr.; three sons, Etel, Lawrence, and David Morrow; one son in law Eligha “Jay” Guillory, Sr., and two daughters in law Sister Rosa Alusio Morrow and Martha Blanchard Morrow. Her five sisters Angelina Harmon, Evelina Ceaser, Omelia Pitre, Eva Allison, Mary Moreau, and four brothers Angelus August, Shelton August, Alzie August, and Frank Antoine August all predeceased her. Also welcoming her in heaven are her granddaughter Skylar Morrow, two great granddaughters Makendra Rosette and Khrisanthia Rosette, and one great great grandson Timothy Joseph, Jr.
Four generations are left to cherish her memories, her daughter Ella Jane Guillory of Orange, Texas, two sons Alexis Jr. (Theresa) Morrow of Vinton, Louisiana, and Clifton (Cathy) Morrow of Iowa, Louisiana, 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 4pm-8pm in King’s Funeral Home Chapel. A second visitation will be held on Monday July 28, 10am, followed by the funeral mass at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton, Louisiana. Burial will be in Edgerly Memorial Cemetery under the direction of King’s Funeral Home.
