Constant training is crucial for our firefighters, especially when it comes to vehicle extrication. Orange C-Shift held training at Gilbeaux’s Towing this week. There are many things to assess before extrication begins:
- Size up the scene
- Wear the appropriate PPE
- Create a safe working area
- Stage all necessary tools
- Stabilize!
- Disable vehicle power
- Be mindful of undeployed airbags
- Start patient care if needed
- Formulate a plan for extrication
- Protect the patient from extrication hazards
- Practice good tool safety
