U.S. Representative Brian Babin said the presidential primary “is going to be crucial” for Republicans “to find out who we put up to face Hillary.”
Babin spoke by telephone Monday morning to Gary Stelly on KOGT radio’s “People in the Know” show.
The congressman said he is supported U.S. Senator Ted Cruz in the Republican race for president because he’s a Texas and “he’s a man of his word.”
Cruz probably has the most expertise as a U.S. Constitution expert and would be a great man to replace the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He also likes Cruz because he is a Texan and he tried to stop Obamacare.
Babin agreed that the Republican race now looks like the nomination will go to one of three men. Those men, besides Cruz, are billionaire Donald Trump and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. The congressman said he will support the Republican candidate even if Cruz does not win.
He said Trump has made some comments that are intriguing. Trump has said things that are not “politically correct,” and the congressman said he likes that.
“The American people are mad, they are angry what this country is doing,” he said.
If Trump becomes president, Babin said, “I just hope he follows the Constitution.” That’s something the congressman said President Obama has not done. He called the president’s executive orders “illegal acts” and said Obama “blatantly, blatantly disregards our constitution.”
“We want secure borders. We don’t want a bunch of refugees infiltrated by ISIS,” Babin said.
The congressman also pointed out he has an office in Orange on Green Avenue to help constituents. Lanie Brown is the contact in the Orange office.
