Community Christian School in Orange ended the 2019-20 school year like other schools in the area. It left them wondering what the future would hold, especially with the coronavirus pandemic.
CCS had six in their 2020 graduation class and it looked like they might be the last senior class because of an accreditation issue. But Executive Pastor Dr. Stephen Samuel, new Head of School Director Loretta Goericke and their staff have worked diligently and received the necessary accreditation from ACSI (American of Christian Schools International) and will continue to offer classes for students from elementary through high school.
Samuel graduated from CCS in 1996 and is excited about the opportunity. “I was fortunate to get my education here and we’re looking forward to educating many more students.”
“We are fully operational,” Goericke said with a smile. “CCS will have a full academic program, athletic program, and we’re bringing back fine arts.” CCS has also joined with Lamar State College-Orange to offer a dual-credit program. Dual Credit courses are courses taken that earns the student college credit while also satisfying high school graduation requirements.
Like LSCO, CCS promotes smaller classes meaning more one on one time with students. It also means less contact with more students and staff as we all deal with the coronavirus.
“It’s easier for us to follow the social distancing guidelines with smaller classes,” she said. “But we will also be following the state guidelines as well as have daily temperature checks, more hand washing and sanitizing, and limited passing in the hallways.” Students will also have online access as a class option.
The Lions are preparing for football season with Coach J.C. Copley and volleyball with Coach David Beck. CCS will also have Cross Country and soccer in the fall.
School begins August 17 and Orientation is set for August 13.
