The Commissioners Court approved the budget for next fiscal year during a Special Court Session Wednesday morning. The $46 million budget matches revenues with expenditures for the county according to County Judge Brint Carlton who completed his first budget for the county. Carlton said that he was glad to have the budget complete and it was done with a lot of hard work and compromise by everyone in the county. The judge added it was the first time as far as he could determine that the county actually had a zero balanced budget where revenues matched expenses, and he wishes congress could do it. The Court unanimously approved the budget and the 54.4 cents per $100 value tax rate which is unchanged from the last two years. The vote on approving no increase in salaries for elected county and precinct officials was 4 to 1, with Commissioner John Banken opposing saying he thought some elected officials should have gotten raises since some have been seven years without a pay increase.
