The city of Orange is ready to offer incentives for businesses to build at 16th Street and Interstate 10 even before the zoning has officially changed.
City Council will meet Tuesday morning and the agenda includes a closed-door executive session to discuss financial incentives to businesses looking at building in the 3000-3100 block of 15th Street.
The regular part of the meeting has the first reading of making that land a Mixed Use Zoning District, a change from Commercial Special Zoning. The zone change requires two readings and votes at separate meetings before it becomes official.
The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission in April tabled the zone change for the land. Then on Tuesday the commission voted to approve the change.
In the agenda information, City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said the Mixed Use Zoning District will allow signs to be 100 feet tall instead of the maximum 24 feet tall in commercial zones. Also, the setback for development from 16th Street will be 30 feet in Mixed Use Zoning instead of the required 50 feet in commercial. Knauf said the Mixed Use Zoning requires areas for pedestrian circulation.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.

Just a thought: offer up 50+ acres on I-10 and BEG Buc-ee’s to come to Orange. They’d LOVE to grab “1st stop in Texas” travelers because then they’ll wanna stop at everyone across the State.
They had Bucee’s on the hook but turned them down for some stupid reason. Our city leadership at it’s finest.
