The city of Orange has been bursting with new commercial construction during the past three months, according to building permits. The projects include new buildings, remodelings, and expansions unrelated to hurricane repairs.
The city issued the building permits in November, December, and January. Some of the new construction projects have received infrastructure grants from the city’s Economic Development Corporation.
The biggest permit went to Lamar State College-Orange with a new $1.5 million building. H.B. Neild and Sonz of Beaumont is the contractor.
The city has added to projects with the new Lions Den Park valued at $490,000, plus another $200,000 for prefabricated bathrooms at the Boat Ramp for a total of $690,000.
Tractor Supply on Interstate 10 has a $500,000 remodeling and the Pilot Travel Center on Highway 62 is getting a revamping valued at $700,000.
Red’s Liquor on 16th Street is building a new $400,000 store next to the current store, which will later be demolished.
Golden Chick has a permit to build a new fast food restaurant on 16th Street worth $825,000. Nearby, The Hut barbecue on 16th Street is having a $30,000 expansion.
Tarver Marine on DuPont Drive is constructing a new building valued at $200,000.
Ron D. McAnnelly, owner of Triangle Rescue on Interstate 10, has $56,900 worth of improvements to the complex that was built in 2018.
First United Methodist Church in downtown Orange received a permit to remodel bathrooms at a cost of $170,000.
Lisa Hunter is getting $45,917 in improvements to a building at 1408 North 10th Street for Tropical Vibes Daiquiries.
The city continues to issue dozens of commercial and residential permits for repairs after hurricanes Laura and Delta. The city is waiving permit fees for hurricane restoration work.
