Municipalities in Orange County are preparing their budgets and tax rates for next fiscal year. West Orange, Pinehurst, and Bridge City will adopt their municipal budgets and tax rates in September.
The City of West Orange has postponed its monthly City Council meeting from Monday, August 12, to the following Monday, August 19. The time of the meeting has been changed from the normal 5:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
The council is expected to discuss the budget and set the proposed tax rate for next year. The current tax rate in West Orange is $0.45 per $100 value. A public hearing on the budget will be called for September 3 as will another public hearing that same day on the proposed tax rate. A second public hearing on the tax rate will be held on September 6.
The Pinehurst City Council meets on Tuesday. The council will consider proposing to adopt a tax rate of $0.71393 cents per $100 value, which is below the current tax rate but an increase of the effective tax rate because of increased property values and sales tax receipts in Pinehurst since Harvey. The City Council will also set the dates for the required public hearings on the tax rate.
The City Council in Bridge City held budget workshops in late July. At the council’s last meeting on August 6, the tax rate was approved to be $0.5535 cents per $100 value which is an increase of one sixth of a penny. Bridge City will hold public hearings on the budget and the tax rate on Tuesday, August 20. A second public hearing on the tax rate will be held Tuesday, September 3.
