
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, LA for Mr. Christopher “Chris” Matthews, 51, who after his short battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and friends.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 9:00 am to the time of his service at 2:00 pm. A rosary will be held at 11:00 am. Reverend Clyde Thomas will be officiating the services.
Interment will immediately follow his service at the Pine Island Cemetery in Pine Island, LA.
Christopher was born on August 8, 1973, to Murphy and Margaret Matthews. He enjoyed life to the fullest and could always be found drinking with his brother-in-law, Porkey, while barbequing for family gatherings. Chris was very proud of his work as diesel mechanic for 11 years with Sentinel Transportation. Beyond his professional pursuits, Chris found much joy in watching street outlaws shows and wrestling, going to the car shows and working on plastic models. He held a deep affection for his fur baby, Gabby, with whom he loved spending time with. Chris was also known for playing Christmas jokes with his family. A beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be present in those he held dear and now leaves behind.
Christopher is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rachel Matthews; his fur baby, Gabby; his sisters, Jackie Toney and Kim Coker (Gary) both of Orange, TX; brothers, Mike Matthews (Donna) of Orange, TX and Earl “Porkey” Touchet (Kathy); Nieces and nephews, Whitney Scalf (Cavan), Brendan Allinder, Taryn Matthews, Peyton Matthews of Orange, TX, Dustin Touchet, Kisha Reichert (Erik), Brandon Landry, Chrissie Herrera, Kim Landry, Dee Landry, Julieonna Robin, Heather Hebert, and Stacy Lavegne; great nieces and nephews, Bailey, Harper, Tucker of Orange, TX, Ava, Clara, Alan, Bryan, Jack, and Lillian of Jennings, LA. Other loved ones from Louisiana are Sally and Geno Landry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Margaret Matthews; his father and mother-in-law, Earl and Marie Touchet; Nephew, Tyler Matthews; and fur baby, Rocky.
He will be carried to his final resting place by Allen Cormier, Fred Landry, Brian Meche, Mike Matthews, Brandon Landry, and Cavan Scalf.
