The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Christene P. Elliott, 74, of Orange will be Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11am at Smyrna Church of God In Christ in Vinton, LA.
Rites of Christian Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens in Orange, TX under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11am until 1pm at the church.
Christene Prescott was born Saturday, August 13, 1949, to Spencer and Hazel Lawrence Prescott in Vinton, LA. Christene was the seventh child of eight born to this union. She was reared in Vinton and graduated from Vinton Negro High in 1967 as Class Salutatorian.
She went on to attend Sowela Technical Institute in Lake Charles, LA, graduating with a diploma in Business.
Christene began her work pursuit at Orange Bank, then proceeded to First National Bank, various other financial institutions also in Orange, TX and ending her career at Sabine Federal Credit Union.
She retired from there in 2018, after 22 years of service.
During her working career in Orange, she met and married Roy E. Elliott, Sr. in 1981 and to this union was born one son, Benjamin Joseph Elliott.
Christene was a lifelong member of the Smyrna Church of God in Christ rededicated her commitment to God and the Church after the birth of son in a quest to set a Christian example for him. She totally committed herself to serve to her Church and God. Christene could be found serving as Board of Trustee Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and Choir President. And yes, to help maintain the Church she was a “free janitor” until health issues caused her to curtail this effort. She was also a major financial supporter of the Church always assuring that tithes and offerings supporting every auxiliary of the Church were met, even when she was not physically present.
Her summons from life to life eternal came Friday, January 19, 2024 in Beaumont, TX.
Christene was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Elliott, Sr., parents, Spencer and Hazel Prescott, two sisters, Ruth Prescott and Jacquelyn Joseph, and three brothers, Mack Ervin Prescott, Wilson Prescott and Isaiah Prescott.
She leaves to cherish memories her son Benjamin Joseph (Beth) Elliott of Helotes, TX, stepson, Roy E. (Brittany) Elliott Jr, four step-daughters, Alyssa Wilson, and Adana Goodall (Brian), both of Houston, Tx, Kimberly Ayers (Janis Meano) of Austin, TX, and Kristen Boisrond of McKinney, TX, and nine grandchildren, Bryson, Cameron, Kennedy, Ayana, Noah, Jacob, Moriah, Eden and Ava.
She is also survived by three sisters, Betty M. Jackson, Theodoria Taylor and Earline Prescott, all of Vinton, LA. ,one aunt, Margaret Spears of Orange, TX, two sisters-in-laws, Shirley Ray of Orange, TX and Evelyn Elliott of Denver, CO and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
