On Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 9:32 a.m., Constable Colton Havard, along with Chief Will Jackson, Sergeant Blueitt of the Newton Police Department and Constable Precinct 2 Jeff McCoy arrived in the 3100 block of FM 1004, in Call, Texas, to execute a Writ of Possession.
Constable Havard, who also works as a detective with the Orange County Sheriff’s Dept. said, “Contact was made with the occupants and our identity was announced, not only as police officers, but also as the Constable to execute a writ. The occupants of the residence refused to open the door and vacate the residence. After negotiations with the occupants failed, officers made forced entry, only to be met with gunfire. Officers retreated to take cover and continued negotiations.”
While negotiating, more shots were fired from the inside of the residence to the outside, one of which struck Chief Jackson in the back. Thankfully, his ballistic vest stopped the round and he only received minor injuries. After negotiating for over an hour, the two suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Newton County Jail, where they will be charged with Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer. The Texas Rangers are currently investigating this incident.
Chief Jackson’s injury was said to be non-life threatening.
After the reports of shots fired, authorities responded, including OCSO, and Constables Lannie Claybar and Jeremiah Gunter.
