The Sabine River Authority awarded a Community Assistance Program Grant December 19 as part of SRA’s Fiscal Year 2019 Economic Development Initiative. The $14,000 check will be used to assist Orange County to install a second row of culverts along FM1442 near the entrance to the Entergy Power Plant in Bridge City. OC Commissioners John Gothia and Johnny Trahan submitted the grant application to SRA on behalf of Orange County. SRA General Manager David Montagne said, “The county’s 1442 project to alleviate flooding issues is an initiative SRA supports in its efforts to improve water and wastewater systems throughout the basin. SRA looks forward to working with the county in the future on increasing the economic vitality of the Sabine River Basin.”
The area is in Commissioner Gothia’s precinct. “There’s about 300 feet of underground culvert that Entergy put in years ago to TxDOT’s specs,” he said. “With the growth here we realize that the capacity is not enough so we’re going to add another 24″ culvert next to the current one which should double the amount of water that we can get out of here during a heavy rain. Thankfully with Commissioner Trahan’s contacts with Entergy and with the SRA’s check and the county’s manpower, we can hopefully improve the drainage in this busy area.”
