A new charter school will be coming to Orange, according to building permits issued by the city. A company listed on the permits as “BCAAC” is spending a total of $700,000 to remodel parts of Northway Shopping Center for a charter school and day care center.
The February permits show the company will spend $200,000 for the remodeling of a section for the charter school and $500,000 to remodel for the day care.
Internet searches do not show BCAAC listed. The Texas Education Agency does not list it among the charter schools in Texas.
City records did not have a contact for the business. Lewing Construction Company is the contractor. The architect is listed as Harry Gendel of Houston. The firm’s website says the architects specialize in office and industrial parks.
Credits for the firm include renovated adminstrative offices, the clubhouse and team stores at Minute Maid Park and the Houston Metropolitan Dance Center. In addition, the company designed the Yeshiva Torat Emet School from Pre-K to eighth grade in a former movie theater.
Other commercial permits issued in February include one worth $3 million for Harvey repairs at Shangri La Gardens and Nature Center. The Stark Foundation is the owner and the contractor is Daniels Building and Construction.
The city has not been charging usual building permit fees for residential and business repairs for Harvey damage. The City Council this past week extended the waiver of Harvey repair fees for another 90 days.
G&G Enterprises received the permit to repair Little Cypress Elementary School on Meeks Drive. The value of the permit was listed as $1.
Jasper Animal Hospital took out a permit worth $45,000 for remodeling at 3739 16th Street, which is the North Orange Animal Hospital.
St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 505 15th Street, got a permit to build a $4,000 ramp and deck.
In the residential category, 29 permits were issued for Harvey repairs, 10 permits were given for FEMA trailers and two for travel trailers related to storm recovery. A house on Coronado is getting window and door replacements worth $28,788.
Two permits worth a total of $7,000 went for residential storage buildings. One of those was a replacement after Harvey.
Two residential re-roof permits were issued worth a total of $22,200. In addition, two residential permits for garage-carport were given for a total of $11,795.
Old Orange Cafe on Division Avenue received a $22,500 permit to replace vent hoods and fans. The restaurant was flooded during Harvey and has not re-opened. Other commercial mechanical permits included an HVAC system worth $230,000 for Little Cypress Elementary and Trinity Baptist Church for $2,000 worth of new duct work. Also CASA on Gloria Drive is getting an HVAC system valued at $8,814.
Eight permits for residential mechanical work totaling $34,154 were issued.
