Following his graduation from Lutcher Stark High School in 1961, he pursued higher education, initially attending Blinn Junior College on a track scholarship for Javelin and later continuing his studies at Lamar University. Dickie’s legacy in our nation’s service began when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966. He served six years, and rose to the rank as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He demonstrated valor and commitment, earning respect and admiration before his honorable discharge in 1972. He dedicated 28 years of professional life at DuPont, where he worked diligently until his retirement on January 1, 2008. On January 4, 2008, he was sworn in as “Chief,” leading a determined team of 40 members with unmatched zeal and responsibility. Dickie’s zest for life extended far beyond his career and civic duties. He cherished every moment spent traveling to Red River, New Mexico, and Mustang Island, with his wife, Ammie, where he found solace in nature. Known for always carrying his flashlight and pocket gadgets, his quick wit and love for humorous sayings brought joy to those around him. He also enjoyed the great outdoors, often embarking on adventures that allowed him to hunt and fish.
