
Charles Martin Long, 79, of Kirbyville, Texas passed away at his home, March 2, 2024.
Born in New Orleans, LA, on January 6, 1945, Charles was the son of John R. and Alice Carter Long. He spent his younger days growing up in Port Arthur and Bridge City, TX. He was a 1963 graduate of Bridge City High School. Charles entered the Navy on active duty shortly after graduation, where he started his military career that lasted nine years. He received many awards, including a Letter of Commendation for his meritorious service during hurricane relief operations in the Dominican Republic. His interest in the medical field led him the optical training at Bethesda, Maryland, where he graduated at the top of his class in Optical school.
Charles married the love of his life, Judy Ann Mullins on June 14, 1963. Two children were born of their marriage, Jeffrey Wade and Tammie Linn.
Charles left the military in January 1971 to pursue business ventures in Charlottesville, VA. He and his family moved to Houston in 1977 and he became the owner of several optical shops in the Houston area. After retiring, he moved to Kirbyville in 2008.
Charles was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Judy, his mother and father, his son Jeffrey; and a brother, James H. Long.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Tammie Linn Blahuta (James) of Katy, TX, brothers John David Long of Gladewater, Lawrence W. Long of Jasper, and sister, Martha Grimsley of Lufkin. He is also survived by grandsons, Bradley Blahuta of Victoria, TX, Keith and Kyle Long of Kirbyville, and granddaughter, Kristen Sirmons of Kirbyville, and several great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Kirbyville Methodist Church on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Burial will be immediately following services at Kirbyville Cemetery.
