At the latest meeting of the Texas State University System Board of Regents, members unanimously voted to honor retiring Lamar State College – Orange President Dr. J. Michael Shahan in several ways.
The regents’ decision renames the campus’ Cypress Center to the J. Michael and Bridget Shahan Events Center. The Board of Regents also voted to award Dr. Shahan the title President Emeritus.
The approved resolution states that Dr. Shahan has been a vital part of Lamar State College – Orange’s growth and development since he took the president position in 1994 and that he and his wife, Bridget, have contributed in tangible and intangible ways to the System, the city of Orange, the Golden Triangle, and the state of Texas.
After nearly 25 years as Lamar State College – Orange’s president, Dr. Shahan is retiring August 31, 2018.
