Community Christian Lions Roar Back to the Gridiron in Inaugural Flag Football Season
For the first time since 2021, the sport of football returned to Community Christian School as the Lions proudly launched their inaugural season of flag football. Led by Head Coach Johnny Asevedo and Athletic Director Corey Cowart, the team embraced a new chapter of athletic competition, rekindling school spirit and laying the foundation for a new era of Lions football. Though the program’s return came in the form of flag football rather than traditional tackle, the energy, excitement, and commitment of players and coaches alike made it a season to remember.
With a roster full of young and eager athletes, many of whom were playing organized football for the first time, the Lions faced both the thrills and challenges of learning a new sport. Practices were filled with lessons in teamwork, discipline, and strategy, as the players adjusted to the fast-paced, skill-driven nature of flag football. Coach Asevedo and Director Cowart worked tirelessly each week to prepare their team—not just for competition, but for growth as athletes and individuals. Their leadership inspired the Lions to give their all, no matter the scoreboard.
Throughout the season, the Lions showed steady improvement, displaying growing confidence and chemistry on the field. Their hard work paid off with an appearance in the playoff tournament, where they proudly represented Community Christian School. Although the Lions came up short of the championship, the experience fueled their determination to continue building and improving. The tournament was won by Spring-Baptist.
The return of football—through the flag format—marks more than just the rebirth of a program; it symbolizes renewal and growth for the entire Community Christian athletic family. The success of this inaugural season has set the stage for even greater achievements in the years ahead. With a strong foundation, enthusiastic players, and dedicated coaches, the Lions are poised to make their mark in their Conference for seasons to come. As Coach Asevedo put it, “This is just the beginning.”
All State Players included from Left to Right: Baylor Vanderburg, Bryce Britnell, Ben Samuel, and Levi Hinton.
