On Friday May 16 ten units of the Sunrise East Apartments were destroyed by fire and investigators are still trying to determine what might have started the blaze.
The apartments are located on Patillo Circle in the Victory Gardens area off Hwy. 87, displacing approximately 35 people. They have been relocated to other means of housing.
“We spent another three hours there on Tuesday (May 27)” said Bridge City FD Captain Elgin Browning. “We haven’t been able to determine anything specific. Right now we don’t believe it to be suspicious and where we think it may have started doesn’t have any electricity in the immediate area. But again nothing has been determined. We’re still taking statements from those that lived here.”
Browning added that the loss is in the one million dollar range and that the owner, Dr. Mark Messer, has been very cooperative and that he’s dealing with the insurance company.
