Codie Vasquez has been named Executive Director of CASA of the Sabine Neches Region. She succeeds Michelle Jones, who has been executive director since January 2017
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Sabine Neches Region gives voice to abused and neglected children in Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Orange, Sabine and Tyler Counties as part of the National CASA Association. Without an advocate, a child spends an average two years bouncing around from place to place in the foster care system. CASA volunteers speak on behalf of these children with the goal of guiding them to safe and permanent homes.
“CASA of the Sabine Neches Region is making a difference in the lives of children every day. CASA volunteers are super heroes and I am honored to be a part of such a meaningful program. I look forward to continuing the growth and accomplishments of the organization.” Vasquez said.
Vasquez is experienced in nonprofit leadership and organizational management. She is the former Chief Operating Officer/Acting Executive Director of Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, where she worked from 2002 until March of 2018.
A native of Orange, Vasquez is a member of numerous organizations, including as Vice President of the Service League of Orange, Vice President of Orange Community Players, board member of the Southeast Texas Arts Council and Friends of the Orange Depot.
Vasquez says she has enjoyed the last six months to have additional time to spend with her family and to see to the completion of construction for her home after she sustained some damages due to Hurricane Harvey. However, when the opportunity to work with CASA of the Sabine Neches Region presented itself, she felt she could not pass on the offer to be a part of such an important program.
About CASA of the Sabine Neches Region
CASA of the Sabine Neches Region provides ongoing training, supervision and support to volunteer advocates in six counties.
Before receiving a case assignment, every volunteer must undergo training in courtroom procedure, social services, the juvenile justice system, and the special needs of abused and neglected children. Trainings are offered in person or online to accommodate any schedule. As trained advocates, volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. When a volunteer is appointed a new case, their most important role is to establish a relationship with the child. The ideal relationship is one that maximizes the CASA volunteer’s ability to advocate successfully for the child. Because of the selfless work of CASA volunteers, these children find a safe, permanent place to call home.
