After a rocky start the Bridge City Lady Cardinals responded with eight unanswered runs to beat Hardin-Jefferson 8-2 to take Game One of their best of three series at Port Arthur Memorial HS Wednesday.
The Hawks scored two runs on a bunt and two errors in the top of the first. But BC rallied in the bottom of the inning with and RBI single from Jaylynne Burch and a Sac Fly RBI from Aleah McClanahan.
The Cards would take the 5-2 lead in the second inning on a 3-run homer by Kassidy Wilbur, her tenth of the season.
And then in the fifth BC would add three straight runs on an error, an Abby Anderson RBI single, and a ground out RBI by Peyton Trapp.
In the circle Wilbur finished with a 2 hitter, 11 K’s, and one walk. She was 3-3 at the dish with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Maggie Garcia and Anderson also scored twice in the game.
Games Two, and Three will be Friday at Port Neches-Groves HS beginning at 5pm.
