The Bridge City Cardinals enter the 2015 football season with a new head coach, a new offense, and a new defensive scheme. New Coach Dwayne DuBois believes his Cardinals have picked up the new offense and defense in the scrimmages pretty good. DuBose indicates Bridge City is ahead of schedule with implementing the new offense and the new defense. Implementing the offense has been difficult, but the kids are working hard according to DuBose who is happy with the progress they are making. Defensively the Cardinals have been getting after it, and DuBose states that it is always easier to implement a new defense than it is an offense.
The Cardinals open the season with the Kirbyville Wildcats. Coach DuBose says the fourth ranked in the state Wildcats are well coached and are very talented.
DuBose sees Kirbyville as explosive on offense from a multiple offense that throws the ball well and runs it well too. The Wildcats use a fast paced attack from multiple sets which DuBose is working to get the Cardinals prepared for that. The Kirbyville defense is based similar to Bridge City in a 4-2-5 and will blitz through gaps while swarming around the football.
DuBose is installing the Slot T offense to allow Bridge City to control the football on offense and keep the other team’s offense off the field. The coach gives the key to the game for the Cardinals this Friday night. DuBose points to his Cardinals offense playing well and controlling the tempo and the clock. On defense Bridge City will need to fly around, make some stops, while getting after the Wildcats.
The game is the first of the season, and also the first for DuBose as head coach at Bridge City, his alma mater. DuBose admits it is exciting returning to Bridge City his hometown and coaching his first game for the Cardinals. He plans to prepare for it like he would any other game at any place he has coached, but DuBose knows it will be a little special for other people out there, it’s going to be fun, and they’re looking forward to it.
