The chance for a possible district championship was lost last week by the Bridge City Cardinals in a defeat to Silsbee, but fortunately no players were injured in the loss. Coach Dwayne DuBois and the Cardinals are getting ready for the Splendora Wildcats who use a truly multiple offense.
DuBois says the Wildcats primarily run the Spread, but they will also drop into the Wildcat and have even gone to the Swinging Gate in the middle of the field. They do have a good quarterback in sophomore Noah Dain. Splendora presents so many different looks; DuBois indicates the Cardinals will have to prepare for all of them. The coach also expects to see a number of reverses, trick plays and things like that from Splendora.
Bridge City will be going to the playoffs in two weeks, so Coach DuBois and his staff are tweaking all phases of the Cardinals’ game in preparation for the post season. That does not mean Bridge City is looking past Splendora according to DuBois. “I sure hope not. I think this loss to Silsbee has kind of woke our kids up a little bit, kind of humbled them a little bit.” DuBois adds that the Cardinals want to enter the playoffs on a positive note with a victory, but knows Bridge City cannot take any opponent in the district lightly including Splendora as they’ve got some talented kids.
The coach gives the Wildcats his full respect as he does every team in District 10-4A. DuBois reminds that Splendora may be winless in district play, but have won three games this season so the Wildcats are capable of playing well and winning a game. DuBois wants the Cardinals to play their best game of the season against Splendora to be hitting on all cylinders going into the playoffs. His goal is not just to make it to the post season, but make some noise while there. Coach DuBois expects Bridge City to bring its “A-game” of football Friday night.
