The Bridge City Cardinals exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning as they defeated Salado 14-7 and swept the Region Final series.
Down 7-4 going into the bottom of the sixth BC loaded the bases on a Carson Bounds walk and back to back singles by Hutch Bearden and Hunter Ford.
And then it went like this: walk, walk, single, walk, walk, walk and BC owns their first lead 10-7 and there are still no outs in the inning. And then, as the wheels on the Eagles were falling off, they lost their spare when Bounds cleared the bases with a grand slam to make it 14-7.
Max Pachar came in the seventh and sat the Eagles down in order for the win and their first trip to the semifinals since 2006. They will play the Wimberley Texans, TBA.
“Our guys never quit,” head coach Chad Landry said. “It was ugly there for a while. Our guys just kept fighting. I think I gave like 75 take signs so we showed patience at the plate.”
Bounds (celebrating above) was 2-2 with 5RBI’s. Austin Frederick and Ashton Sumrall had a hit and 2 RBI’s. Hunter Ford and CJ Riojas had two hits. Owen Tucker started the game and went three innings. He was replaced by Braydon Dennison who pitched 1.2 innings. Slade Landry pitched 1.1 hitless innings and was credited with the win.
“We had a plan this series that we would be using a lot of arms and all in all they all competed extremely well,” Landry said. “Overall I’m just very happy with the way we’re playing right now.”
