A teenager wanted on four warrants for car burglary was arrested for possession of marijuana about 3 a.m. Wednesday near Little Cypress subdivisions.
The arrest was made by Orange Detective Sergeant Stephen Ward, who has been among extra officers working nights to try stopping car burglaries. Ward reported he was driving westward on Bear Path Road and was behind a red Honda Civic that had a paper back license that expired in 2016.
He stopped the car for the violation. When he walked up to the car, he smelled marijuana. The driver of the car admitted to having weed and got two baggies out of a backpack.
The detective also found a baby bottle with purple syrup, which is often used as a way to drink codeine. The driver said the liquid was Nyquil with syrup. Police have sent the contents to a lab for testing.
18-year-old Aaron Anthony Solomon of Orange was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Sergeant Ward reported he had four arrest warrants issued for burglary of a vehicle.
Captain Robert Enmon said the four warrants are not connected with any of the 40-plus vehicle burglaries in Orange during the past four weeks.
The passenger in the car, 17-year-old Jonathan Thibodeaux of West Orange, was arrested for misdemeanor public intoxication.
