Bridge City police arrested a 26-year-old man Thursday a few hours after five vehicles were reported burglarized on Hebert and Dobbyn streets.
Trey Thomas Dowd has been charged with five counts of burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, plus fraudulent possession of identification. Detective Danny Hodges, in an affidavit of probable cause, said police recovered three Social Security cards and two Texas driver’s licenses that had been stolen during the car burglaries.
Victims started calling the Bridge City Police Department about 6:30 Thursday morning after discovering the car burglaries. Hodges said the cars had been unlocked. Purses, check books, debit cards, credit cards identification cards, medications and a stereo amplifier were reported missing.
Hodges in the affidavit said a man in Port Neches called police asking them to help him recover a Honda side-steer motor that was stolen from his house. The man said his son living in Bridge City was trying to sell the motor on Facebook.
Police went to the suspect’s residence and found a woman there. She said the man was at her residence and she gave investigators permission to search.
Hodges said police found a number of stolen items, including the motor, in the master bedroom and garage of the house.
Bond for Dowd was set at $20,000.
